His story

A dog who has been loved every step of the way

Caspian has been passed from one loving pair of hands to the next, and he has never stopped being a good boy through any of it. We're looking for the last stop: someone who will be his person for the rest of his life.

  1. A grandmother's companionCaspian started out as the devoted sidekick of a friend's grandmother.
  2. Passed to familyWhen she died, her grandson inherited Caspian but couldn't keep him.
  3. Lineman school buddyOur son Alexander adopted him while he was in lineman school.
  4. Our family dogWhen Alexander took a traveling job, Caspian came home to us and became part of the family.
  5. Next: his forever homeOur situation has changed, and we want to find him the right person. Maybe that's you.
What he's like

Smart, sweet, and very much a people dog

A lap dog at heart

He'll sit in your lap at every chance he gets and lean back against you like a recliner.

Sits like a person

On the couch he sits upright like one of the family, ready for movie night or a binge of your favorite show.

Brighter than average

Eager to please and easy to train. He has even figured out how to open doors with certain handles.

Comes when called

He does well off leash and has a reliable recall.

Squeaky toy fanatic

Bring home a small squeaky toy and you'll have a very happy dog.

House-trained

Caspian is well potty trained and easy to live with.

"He picks his person, and once he does, he's yours completely."

What's in the mix

15 breeds, one of a kind

  • American Pit Bull Terrier31%
  • Chihuahua21%
  • Belgian Malinois9%
  • Rottweiler5%
  • Labrador Retriever5%
  • 10 other breeds29%

The pit bull gives him his big heart, the Chihuahua explains the lap obsession, and the Malinois is probably how he learned to open doors.

The right fit

Caspian's ideal home

We want this to be his last move, so we're being thoughtful about the match. Here's what we've learned about where he thrives.

He'll do best with

  • Someone home most of the day. If you work from home, Caspian is a perfect office mate.
  • Being the only dog. He gets along with other dogs (and prefers the ladies), but he's happiest as the one and only.
  • A person who wants a shadow. He bonds closely with whoever spends the most time with him.
  • A comfy couch and a lap to share. This is not negotiable, as far as he's concerned.

Good to know

  • Mild, manageable separation anxiety. He gets nervous when his person leaves, then settles down after a short time.
  • Not a fan of thunder. Loud sounds make him nervous, though he's a confident dog otherwise. A cuddle helps.
  • Clever with doors. Lever-style handles are no match for him, so plan accordingly.
